Research on the relaxation response: our current guide
What this page said
The page was a bibliography, grouped under headings such as anxiety, cardiac, headache, hypertension, irritable bowel, infertility, insomnia, menopause, pain, premenstrual syndrome, review articles, surgery and women's health. Each entry gave authors, year, title and journal with a link to its PubMed record.
Many entries were from the 1970s onward and included early studies by Herbert Benson and colleagues, such as a 1975 Lancet paper on premature ventricular contractions and relaxation response, and a 1978 comparison of meditation and self-hypnosis for anxiety. The list is the institute's own selection and not a systematic review. For a current evidence summary see our research guide, which cites sources directly.
